Bernard John Stormberg

January 11, 1932 — May 12, 2023

Medford, Oregon

“Jack”- Bernard John Stormberg passed away May 12, 2023, at the age of 91. He was Born January 11,
1932, in Kimball, Nebraska. Jack was one of nine children born to Barnard and Kathryn Stormberg. His
father was a sharecropping farmer who worked the land in exchange for a modest income and a home
to raise his family. Jack left the farm to attend Kimball High School. Upon graduating, Jack went on to
college and earned his Degree in Business Administration from Denver University. This is also where he
met his wife Dee, and on April 14, 1956, Jack married Dolores Pauline Broz in Orleans, France. They were
happily married for 57 years, until Dee’s passing on October 12, 2013. He was a devoted husband and a
dedicated father to their nine children: Lindy, Gregory, Randall, Matthew, Anthony, James, Christopher,
Jennifer, and Lisa. His love and stewardship for his family and others will always be his legacy. Jack was
the proud grandfather of 23 and great-grandfather of 17. Jack and Dee were also foster parents to more
than 15 additional children over the course of their life together.
Dad enjoyed travel and explored the world with Dee, traveling through Rome, Western Europe, Asia,
and throughout North America. Dad also loved dancing with Dee, a game of cards, a lot of golf and a
little gambling, but he truly thrived most when he was working on the farm or with his hands in his
wood shop. In life he was an accomplished businessman, a humble philanthropist, and strong example
of his faith to his children and those who knew him. Jack instilled in his children the ability to appreciate
the necessity and reward of hard work, the painful joy of competition and that the single greatest gift is
family. Throughout his life, our father showed us fairness, and equity and was a stoic advocate for those
who deserved better than they received. He often provided fiscal counsel within his Catholic Parish and
served on business, educational, and charitable boards throughout his career.
Besides raising his family, Jack worked at Providence Hospital, in Medford, Ore., for 34 years. He began
in the Business office in 1958 after the Sisters of Providence informed Dee who was a nurse at the
hospital, that they had prayed, and it was decided that Jack would be the hospitals new business
manager. Over the next 34 years, Jack went on to become the assistant hospital administrator and
eventually became the first layman chosen to be Hospital Administrator in the Catholic Hospitals 59-year
history. Upon retiring, Jack spent many more years following Dee as she worked in the Traveling
Nursing Corps and together, they explored the beauty and history of America. Now Dad is again with his
beloved Dee, and has the best view of the farm, the best golf to be played, the best cards to be dealt
and the best partner in heaven to dance with.
“My father was the best man that I have ever known, and I will greatly miss him.”
