In Loving Memory of Deanna Marie Young
June 3, 1943 – May 9, 2025
Deanna Marie Young passed away peacefully on May 9, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and deep faith. Born on June 3, 1943, in Jamestown, New York, Deanna lived a rich and adventurous life, spending most of her years in Southern California, Hamilton, Ohio, and Southern Oregon.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Deanna served from 1962 to 1964 during the Vietnam era and was honored to participate in the funeral procession of President John F. Kennedy. Her sense of duty and patriotism was matched by her vibrant personality and zest for life.
Deanna was the mother of three children, Andrea, Kristin, and Callen, and is survived by her sister Sandra and brother George. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Shankey. Deanna held a special place in her heart for her granddaughter Katie and her nephews, whose presence brought her immense joy and pride.
Known for her attractive nature, Deanna made friends wherever she went. She was a woman of deep Catholic faith, regularly practicing her religion and going on spiritual pilgrimages to Spain, Portugal, Greece, France, Italy, and the Holy Land.
Deanna was a lifelong learner and enthusiast who embraced a wide range of hobbies. She enjoyed reading, bicycling, knitting, playing musical instruments, painting, motorcycling, traveling, and spending cherished time with her family. She also built a meaningful career in the dental field, working for many years as a dental assistant and office manager.
Whether sipping tea or white zinfandel, taking in a beautiful view, or engaging in conversation, Deanna brought life, light, and laughter to those around her. She was generous in spirit, joyful in heart, and deeply devoted to her loved ones.
We greatly miss Deanna and find comfort in the hope of being reunited with her in the Lord's glory. Rest in peace, Deanna. We love you.
