Doris Kane

May 16, 1930 — May 17, 2020

Doris Kane, 90, passed peacefully at her home in Medford, OR on May 17, 2020. Doris was born May 16,
1930 in Lebanon, KS to Glen Leroy Kier and Della Mae Hunt Kier. The family moved from Kansas to
Oregon in the 1930s, settling in the Portland area. Doris graduated from Portland’s Lincoln High School
in 1948.
In 1949, Doris married Harry Richard Neil and together they had two daughters, Carol and Roberta. In
1969, Doris married Richard Dean (Dick) Kane, adding his three children, Cathy, Mark and Brian, to her
family.
Doris had a life-long love of books. She worked for the Jackson County Library for many years, serving
several of them as librarian at its Phoenix branch. Doris took greatest joy, however, in her role as
homemaker for her husband and family, who could always count on a warm hug and a good meal. In
addition to their shared love of books, Doris and Dick enjoyed travelling and exploring both old and new
places. Doris volunteered at the Phoenix Museum and as a teacher’s aide at Phoenix Elementary,
finding her time at both very rewarding. Doris also enjoyed needlework, especially cross-stitch; several
people have pieces of her work to treasure.
Doris is survived by her children; Carol Hood (Lyle), Roberta Bustamante (Terry), Cathy Kane Prichard
(Jim), Mark Kane (Lourdes) and Brian Kane (Teresa); 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, six great-
great grandchildren (with another on the way) and a niece, Joy Baker. Doris was preceded in death by
her husband, Dick, and parents.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Chris Murphy, Asante Hospice and the staff at The Springs at Anna Maria
for the thoughtful, loving and compassionate care they provided Doris.
Doris will be interred with her husband at the Eagle Point National Cemetery; a memorial service is
pending. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Phoenix Historical Society or Asante
Hospice.
