JOAN NEVIN
11-05-1925 – 11-06-2020
Edna Joan Nevin of Eagle Point, Oregon, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2020 in Medford, Oregon.
Joan was born in Elmira, Missouri to Henry and Nelle Trout. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri with three sisters; Viola, Elaine and Loraine, all deceased. Joan moved to Livermore, California two years after graduating from high school. There she met Phillip James “Bud” Nevin. They married October 5th, 1947 and had two daughters and operated their cattle ranch. In 1956 they moved to Eagle Point, Oregon where they had two more children (boys) and continued cattle ranching. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary before Bud passed away in 2007.
Joan had many interests during her life. The most important being her family. She enjoyed gardening (especially her roses), reading, decorating, holidays, cooking, and entertaining friends with her wonderful dinners. She especially enjoyed her Friday date night with her husband, Bud where they would go to dinner and then to the Medford Elks for dancing. She enjoyed going to all her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, 4-H & FFA fairs, rodeos and school events. She worked 20 years for the Oregon Bank as a loan officer and was treasurer of the Antelope Ladies Social Club for years, volunteered with the Eagle Point SMART Reading Program, was a member of the Jackson County Cattle Women’s Association and participated in Jackson County Extension.
Joan touched the lives of many in her life. Her warmth, sincerity, hospitality, sense of humor and thoughtfulness made all those around her feel welcome. These attributes are what made Joan so special: and were what made her so loved as a wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband Phillip “Bud”, son Denny and granddaughter Tracy Anderson.
Joan is survived by daughters Jennifer Anderson (Ron) of Eagle Point and Donna White (Jim) of Creswell, son Jim Nevin (Rene’) of Eagle Point and daughter-in-law Anne Manlove of Eagle Point. Grandchildren, Molly McGiffin (Brett “Mac”) of Red Bluff, CA, Amy Fitzpatrick (Tye) of Eagle Point, Shawn Leary of Veneta, Creighton Nevin (Gabriella) of Eagle Point, Brandt Nevin (Hana) of Kuna, Idaho, Fiona Nevin and Wynn Nevin of Eagle Point, step-grandson, Jimmy White (Reena) of Medford. Great-grandchildren, Kayla and Rylee McGiffin, Ayden and Sofie Leary, Hayes and Maelyn Nevin, Gatlin Nevin, step-great grandchildren, Denton and Ashley Fitzpatrick, Cage, Dom, James and Lincoln White.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no memorial service, but a family graveside service at Brownsboro Cemetery, November 21, 2020 at 11am.
