Obituary

Elmer Earl Maloney, 83, of Lake Creek, Oregon passed away February 5, 2017 at a local hospital surrounded by his family. He was born November 5, 1933 to Marvin and Julia Maloney in Hollis, Oklahoma. In the early 1950's he and his parents, along with six siblings, moved from Oklahoma to Medford, Oregon. After arriving in Oregon he worked for Olson Lawyer Lumber Company. Elmer married Marilyn Davis in 1955 in Medford, Oregon.

In 1956 Elmer and Marilyn moved with their son, Leroy, to Oklahoma. While living there, Elmer worked various jobs, and he and Marilyn had their daughter, Connie. In 1958 they returned to Medford, getting jobs from Stanley Ranch in Eagle Point and Modoc Orchard in Medford. In 1963 they had their third child, a son, Bruce. That same year Elmer began work at Cascade Ranches in Lake Creek. In 1977 he became field manager for Eagle Point Irrigation District. He retired from that position in 1997.

Elmer and Marilyn purchased land in Lake Creek in 1971; in 1975, they began living in a mobile home on the property before building their house. In 1981 Elmer finished the house where they had lived for 36 years. Upon retirement from Eagle Point Irrigation District, Elmer and Marilyn purchased a travel trailer, taking various trips to Oklahoma, Texas, and other states. They also went to Mexico to help with missionary work. After selling the trailer, Elmer began working part-time for the Stanley Ranch.

Elmer enjoyed gardening, ranch work, and operating equipment. He volunteered at the Lake Creek Historical Society. Elmer and Marilyn first attended Brownsboro Community Church, then Butte Creek Baptist Church and most recently attended Trail Christian Fellowship.

Elmer is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn "Davis" Maloney; his three children, Leroy "Lee" Maloney of Grants Pass, Oregon; Connie (Mark) Shuey of Eagle Point, Oregon; and Bruce (Cheryl) Maloney of Lake Creek, Oregon; four grandchildren, Cassie and Renee Maloney and Nicole and Nathan Shuey; seven great-grandchildren; his siblings, Joy Backes of Central Point, Oregon; Marvin "Buck" (Loretta) Maloney of Lakeside, Oregon; Shirley (Howard) Staten of Medford, Oregon; Gladys Maguire of Central Point, Oregon; and Brenda Rhea of Central Point, Oregon.
