Obituary

Francis Gerald "Jerry" McArdle, 94 years old, husband to Katherine Patricia "Pat" Evans McArdle for 49 years, died surrounded by his family at the home of his eldest daughter, Shawna. Jerry was raised in Hanna, Wyoming and was a proud member of the class of 1949 at Hanna High School, where he lettered in basketball and was also an active member of the student council. Jerry was a proud United States Navy veteran who saw the world as described in Navy advertising aboard the destroyer USS Norris from 1950 to 1954, During Jerry's early professional career, he was a union rep while working for Frontier Airlines. The majority of his working life was spent employed by Pacific Power and Light as a meter reader, an office manager and director of the lineman apprentice program. Jerry was a highly motivated and loyal employee for PP&L and thoroughly enjoyed his career that went from 1960 to 1988. His PP&L career followed his naval career in respect to travel, with each new opportunity including a transfer. He started with the company in Casper, Wyoming before being transferred and promoted with each new stop to include Crescent City, California, Portland, Oregon, Myrtle Creek, Oregon and later Medford, Oregon. Jerry was known for his "can do" attitude and ingenious methods of solving problems on a multitude of house projects throughout his life. Jerry was never afraid of work and welcomed every opportunity to pitch in to help, particularly as it related to tending to the family vineyard. He became known as the senior viticulturist during the tenure of the family's wine enterprise. Jerry was a great story teller and regaled everyone with his life's adventures. Jerry was a self starter, He and four other friends were the founders of the South Douglas County, Oregon Rodeo in 1982. This allowed Jerry to harken back to his roots in Wyoming where he worked on the Sullivan Ranch in the Shirley Basin from the time he was 12 until he entered the Navy after high school. The Rodeo continues and thrives to this day in Myrtle Creek. Jerry was devoted to his loving wife and his five daughters, Shawna(Dave) of Medford, OR, Jeri(Tony) of Hillsboro, OR, Radonna(Steve) of Hillsboro, OR, Melanie(Tim) of Williamsport, PA and Julie(Troy) of Myrtle Creek, Oregon.
