In 1951 he joined the Navy and served aboard the Philippine Sea Ship during the Korean War until 1955 when he was stationed at Kodiak, Alaska during his final year of service. In 1957 he married Betty Hawkins and they spent 66 wonderful years together. He became a Medford Firefighter in 1961 becoming Fire Marshal and Fire Chief at the end of his career in 1991.

He is survived by his wife Betty, sons Gary and Mark, brother Wayne Ritchie, and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son Michael, step-father Vern Ritchie, and mother Edna Ritchie.

At his request there will only be a private family service. He passed December 18th, 2023 at home surrounded by family and friends under the care of hospice.
