IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jack E.
Young
May 6, 1925 – March 24, 2024
Jack Edmund Young, a man whose talents and spirit left an indelible mark on the world. Born on May 6, 1925, in the small town of Lexington, Oregon, Jack's journey through life was one of passion, creativity, and joy. He passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024, in Medford, Oregon, leaving behind a legacy of art, love, and laughter.
Jack, a loving husband to his late wife Bonnie P. Young, whom he affectionately called his "Sweet Doll," was a devoted father to his children, Jack R. Young and Nancy L. Young. His spirit will continue to live on through his grandchildren Neil, Michael, Brian, Brad, Daniel, Susanna, David, and Rebecca, and his ten beautiful great-grandchildren, who brought him immense joy and pride.
A proud alumnus of the University of Oregon and the Art Center School in Los Angeles, Jack's education in art and industrial design laid the foundation for a remarkable career. His professional journey began at North American Aviation as an ink tracer, and his talent soon took him to Boeing, where for five years he created aircraft paintings and designed exterior markings for many of the world's airlines.
Jack's artistry was not just confined to the aviation industry. At Lockheed Missiles and Space Division, he painted iconic images of space exploration, including man's first walk in space, which garnered national attention in newspapers and magazines. His excellence was evident as he entered and won three TIMA national art competitions, and later secured four first-place awards in another TIMA competition.
In the years that followed, Jack's career soared to new heights at Aero Union Corporation, where he not only contributed his artistic skills but also courageously co-piloted a B-17, fighting wildfires across the Northwest. At Lawrence Livermore Laboratories, he experienced a prolific period, selling 158 landscapes to various art galleries. His high-tech paintings at Sandia National Laboratories further showcased his versatility and continued to captivate audiences.
Beyond his professional achievements, Jack's aviation and landscape art have been displayed at esteemed locations such as the Air Force Museum, Navy Air Museum, and the Pentagon. Recognized as a world-class artist, Jack's work also found a special home among the community, adorning the walls of Southern Oregon's Fred Meyer store, where his fine art brought beauty to everyday spaces. Jack will always be remembered as a proud World War II Air Force Veteran.
Jack's interests extended beyond his paintbrush. An avid builder of model airplanes, a formidable running back in his football days, and a master of drawing and sketching, he was a man of many talents. His infectious enthusiasm, fun, and playful sense of humor never failed to put smiles on the faces of those around him.
Described as loving, wise, and courageous, Jack embodied these qualities in every aspect of his life. His wisdom guided his family, his courage inspired his peers, and his loving nature warmed the hearts of all who knew him.
In the words of Vincent van Gogh, "I am seeking, I am striving, I am in it with all my heart." Jack lived his life with this very sentiment, pouring his heart into his art, his family, and his many passions. His presence will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will continue to inspire and touch lives for generations to come.
Jack Edmund Young's story is one of a life beautifully lived and generously shared. His memory will be cherished, and his art will remain a testament to a life dedicated to capturing the essence of our world and the spirit of humanity. Today, we bid farewell to a true artist, a loving patriarch, and an extraordinary man whose life's canvas was painted with the vibrant colors of love, creativity, and joy.
From our hearts to yours,
Your family and friends
