Died: December 25, 2020 – 2:00 PM
Janet was born April 4, 1944 in Vallejo, Ca. to parents John and Ellen Bachman.
Janet attended Paramount High school and graduated from beauty college leading to a career as a professional Hair Stylist. Her outstanding success as a Hair Stylist was attributed in part to her cheerful and friendly nature, her ability to communicate and to listen well to others.
In 1975, Janet married Paul C. Cook and moved to Downey, Ca. where they resided for nearly 20 years. Paul served as Fire Chief for the Downey Fire department and later as a landscape contractor and income property investor. In 1993, Paul and Jan relocated to Medford, Or. They built their dream home in East Medford, and enjoyed many wonderful years hosting friends and family. Janet loved to entertain and hosted many family reunions over the years. The party was always on at their house.
In Paul’s later years, he suffered greatly from chronic health issues and Janet was his primary 24/7 care provider. Jan will be remembered for her faithfulness to her husband over these difficult years. Although Jan suffered from chronic health issues later in life, she maintained an upbeat and positive outlook. Her favorite expression - “I'm gonna live till I die,” captured her ability to live in the moment and remain engaged and active. She could find joy in life's simple pleasures.
The family would like to express their thanks to all the medical providers involved in Janet’s care, with particular thanks going to Bob and Charlene Salsedo, Janet’s neighbors who were always there for both Paul and Janet over all the years and to the 24/7 Hospice Care Providers, and dear friends Diana Caschera, making Janet’s last days dignified and comfortable. Janet died peaceably in her home in the afternoon on Christmas Day. Her house was beautifully decorated for Christmas and leaving all of us with the song, she requested to be played at her Celebration of Life - “Have Yourself A Very Merry Christmas.”
Jan is preceded in life by her husband, Paul C. Cook, and survived by their (his) children Debbie Cook Smith (Patrick), Brenda Cook Messmer (Clark), and Carl Cook (Christal); his grandchildren, Michelle Moore, Kimberly Moore, Madison Messmer, Dominic Cook, Kaylin Cook, Chase Cook, and Hannah Cook; and by granddaughters of her heart, Stephanie Smith and Jessica (Smith) Dougherty.
Memorial Service is planned for 1:00 pm. Friday, January 22nd, 2021 at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Boulevard, Medford, OR 97504. In lieu of flowers, please honor Jan by donating to a charitable organization of your choice (e.g., ASPCA). She was all about giving back to the community.
