IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joshua Logan
Manuel
May 11, 1994 – February 16, 2024
Joshua Logan Manuel, at the age of 29, passed away on February 16, 2024, in Medford, Oregon, two days after an accidental seizure-induced fall that resulted in a life-ending brain injury.
Joshua was born in Anchorage, Alaska on May 11, 1994. The Forget-Me-Not, Alaska's state flower, is a symbol of constancy and perseverance – the all-encompassing embodiment of the pioneering spirit represented by love, respect, faithfulness, peace, healing, growth, intelligence, and power; qualities prominently displayed in Joshua's actions and character.
Joshua's interests included writing poetry, cooking, crypto-trading, photography, a love for nature and animals, and exploring and enjoying county and state parks and rivers in Southern Oregon. He worked wonders in the kitchen and was also an accomplished writer, having published two collections of poetic writings.
Diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder at age 10, he experienced life-long challenges that were often debilitating, unmanageable, and treatment-resistant. In recent years, he found tremendous relief through his use of psilocybin. The last two years of his life were remarkably encouraging, as he thrived at work, found peace and joy in God, himself, and those around him. At the time of his death, he was also working on a book that chronicled his personal journey and success in overcoming the effects of his mental health challenges. He had a vision that a person's Bipolar Disorder would no longer be stigmatized.
Joshua will best be remembered for his faith in God, creativity, writing skills, perseverance, tenacity, and compassion for others. Throughout most of his adolescent and adult life, he somehow managed to always be thinking of others and serving those around him.
On February 18, 2024, Joshua's final act of selflessness was as an organ donor, having previously opted in as a donor when he obtained his Oregon driver's license in 2018 after relocating to Medford from the Bay Area.
Joshua is survived by his parents David & Kristy Manuel of Medford, Oregon; his brother Jeremy Manuel of Seattle, Washington; and many other relatives and friends.
