Kenneth Phillips

February 4, 1931 — April 1, 2019

It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth Phillips announces his passing, on Monday, April 1, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

Born to Henderson and Cora Phillips in Sterns, Kentucky, the family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and then to Glendale, Oregon. Ken was the youngest of four children: Laura, Hubert, and Ethel. All predeceased. He came to Oregon on a troop train with his mother and one sister.

Ken attended Medford Senior High where he met his future wife, JoAnne Campbell. He joined the Navy in 1951 and upon his return attended Moler Barber College in Portland Oregon. He and JoAnne married in 1954. After working in several local barber shops, Ken opened a 5-chair barber shop in the Medford Shopping Center in 1958. He built 4 houses and a cabin in his spare time along with part time employment with the Central Point police department.

Ken loved playing his guitar with a small group of close friends. He enjoyed boating, motor home trips and any camping with family. He was a great fixer-upper and enjoyed helping friends and family with small or large projects. He loved working on his property on the Applegate River and spent many hours on his tractor and backhoe.

Ken will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, JoAnne and his two daughters, Tami Lee Fusco (Al) and Sheri Ann Van Horn (Scott). He had 5 grandchildren, Chris Van Horn (Tina), Jason Van Horn (Elizabeth), Kayla Van Horn (Nick) Jared Van Horn and Kendra Fusco. He also had 2 great grandchildren: Dylan and Layla.

A Memorial Service in memory of Ken will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2:00 PM at the Ruch Community Bible Church, 190 Upper Applegate Rd in Ruch, Oregon with Pastor Ron McKay officiating.
