Obituary

Lucille was born on September 29th 1937, in Red Bluff, California, a mixture of Polish, German, English, Scottish, and Irish. A true American!

Her parents were Mercedes Ann Gurschke Nichols and Robroy Laverne Nichols. Her father left when Lucille was two weeks old, and she was raised in San Francisco by a loving extended family. When she was eight, her mother married a returning Navy man named Bill McKean. They moved to Spokane, Washington, then Vancouver, Washington.

Lucille was very grateful for her catholic education. After high school, Lucille returned to San Francisco where she married Albert Morch, the society columnist for the San Francisco Examiner. Besides living the "high life" courtesy of the paper, they had two girls: Melissa and Stephanie. They eventually left Albert in the city and Lucille and the girls moved to Marin County where she was the manager of a famous café where she was well known for her beauty and grace. She was often referred to with both affection and admiration as "the redhead!"

After her daughters were grown, she moved to Medford, Oregon to be with her mother. She spent many years volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. She worked ten summers (and two winters) for the Grand Teton Lodge Company in Jackson, Wyoming, as a manager. While there she met and married Warren Carlson, a tour guide at the park. They had a good ten years together before she was called to Heaven.

Lucille is survived by her husband, her daughters and two granddaughters: Mara and Kirby, and one grandson, Talon.

The family will be witnessing the scattering of Lucille's cremated remains in the Rose Garden at Siskiyou Memorial Park Friday March 1st, 2024 at 3:00 PM. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Medford's St. Vincent de Paul.
