IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Lynn
Holmes
May 7, 1945 – January 13, 2024
Mary (McCulloch) Holmes was born in Ashland Oregon on May 7, 1945. Mary passed away with her husband Curt, by her side in their Medford residence on Saturday evening January 13, 2024 in Medford Oregon.
Mary grew up in Ashland Oregon with her parents McKenzie and Daisy McCulloch and 3 older brothers Darryl, Jim, and Phillip. Mary graduated from Ashland High School, in 1963, in Ashland Oregon. Mary recently attended her 60th high school reunion in the summer of 2023, looking stunning as always with her husband Curt by her side. While in high school, Mary, 16, and Curt Holmes, 20, were set up on a blind date through mutual friends. It was love at first sight for Curt. After courting Mary for some time, Curt won Mary's heart. The two were married March 22, 1964 in Medford Oregon. In Mary's youthful years she was involved and taught Sunday school for children of all ages including high schoolers at St. Peter's Lutheran Church.
Mary and Curt raised their family: John, Lona, Kenneth, and Sue in Medford Oregon. Many memories were created throughout her 78 years. She was involved and supported her children from football, baseball, volleyball, 4-H Horses and she continued her involvement down to her grandkids from little league to racing. Mary was known as "Mother M" by many of her children's friends. Faithfully the Holmes family would enjoy their summer vacations for over 10 years camping over at the Oregon coast at Sunset Bay and Humbug Mountain, usually having other children in tow besides their own. It was normal for the SUV to be loaded down with kids and dogs as they made their coastal trip every summer.
Mary worked proudly as a waitress for over 30 years. Her place of employment stayed the same, but fell under many different names such as Big Al's, Bee Gee's, Sara's Cottage Kitchen, and Real Deal Café. Mary was well loved by all her customers, especially by her "regulars" that came in daily. Mary developed many long term relationships with her co-workers, often getting together outside of work. Even after retiring due to her 3rd bout of cancer, her heart and soul was still there.
Mary and Curt enjoyed over 20 years vacationing for weeks at a time on the big island of Hawaii. Some of their favorite activities in Hawaii included window shopping, exploring the island, sitting on the lanai watching the sunsets, and the boats coming into dock. One of Mary's favorite places to visit was the Royal Kona Resort. Mary and Curt would enjoy dinner and drinks sitting on the edge of the ocean. Another favorite of Mary's was the Captain Bean dinner cruise. They would enjoy live music, drinks, and amazing food while taking in the sunsets of the Kailua Bay.
Mary is survived by her husband Curt, barely missing their 60th wedding anniversary by several weeks. Mary is also survived 3 of her children, John Holmes Jacksonville OR, Kenneth Holmes Central Point OR, and Sue Holmes Medford OR. One daughter proceeded her in death, Lona Adkins from Medford OR. Mary also survived by 10 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. Mary was a dedicated wife, mother, and was looked up to as the family matriarch. Mary will be greatly missed. We part with words often spoken by Mary, "It's never goodbye, it's always so long."
