Michael Winton Miller, a retired FBI Special Agent, passed away November 18, 2024 at the age of 79.
He was born in Oakland, CA and grew up in La Mesa, CA in San Diego County. After graduating high school, he attended San Diego State University and graduated in 1967. After graduation he entered the U.S. Navy as a Ground Control Intercept Officer and worked as a Legal Officer for VF-101 at NAS Key West for 3 years.
He entered the FBI in June of 1970 under J. Edgar Hoover and served in Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Miami, Florida. He then studied Russian at DLI, Monterey, CA. After a year of foreign language training he was transferred to Portland, Oregon. He earned his master's degree from University of Portland. He then transferred to Medford, Oregon where he retired from the FBI in 1998.
Upon his retirement, he did military and federal background checks for OPM. He loved the outdoors, spending time in Sunriver, OR and Maui, HI. He also enjoyed flying and got his private pilot's license in Medford. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Muriel (Michaelson) Miller and Oscar Winton Miller. He is survived by his wife Linda Miller; daughters Debbie (Travis) Taylor, Wendy (Pete) Brentano, stepson Michael Hill and four grandchildren.
A private service for immediate family will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made to the American Red Cross or the St. Labre Indian School.
