Obituary

Monty Charles Penwell, affectionately known to all as Monty, was born on June 23, 1941, until his peaceful passing on April 12, 2025, in Medford, Oregon. Born in the small town of Potlatch, Idaho, Monty's journey was marked by an unwavering dedication to his community, a boundless love for the great outdoors, and a heart that knew no bounds when it came to generosity and kindness.

Monty's formative years were spent in the lush landscapes of Oregon, where he graduated from Medford Senior High in 1959 and furthering his education at the College of the Siskiyous. His academic pursuits were only the beginning of a life characterized by continuous growth and contribution. As the Chief Operating Officer at Reter Fruit Company from 1946 until his retirement in 2018, Monty was more than a businessman. His dedication to the land and its fruits extended over five decades, during which he tended to hundreds of acres of pears and apples, ensuring the bounty of the valley could be shared far and wide.

Monty's commitment to his community shone brightly through his involvement with the Fruit Growers League, the NW Pear Bureau, his association with the Free Mason Lodge #103 of Oregon, and the Hillah Shriners of Medford.

Monty's interests painted the picture of a man who lived fully and loved deeply. Whether he was outdoors hunting, fishing, boating or riding motorcycles, Monty embraced each day with vigor. His love for traveling and RVing with his beautiful wife Susie was matched only by the joy he found in loving on his pup, Lucy.

Monty's family was the cornerstone of his existence. He was a cherished brother, a beloved father, a treasured grandfather, and a revered uncle. He is survived by his sister Irma Penwell, son Scott Penwell, granddaughter Kaitlyn Penwell-Nolen, and nephew Tom Bruce. Monty had fond memories shared with his late father Don Penwell, his mother Elva Penwell, his sister Donna Penwell-Hunter, and his nephews, John Bruce and Little Monty Bruce.

In his golden years, Monty enjoyed watching his hummingbirds, listening to his favorite music, and the laughter shared with friends and family. His Caregiver of 8 years, Jessica Goodman and family, contributed greatly to his health and wellbeing during this time.

Monty's journey has come to a close, and he will be missed by all that knew and loved him. And informal Celebration of Life for Monty will be held at the home of his sister-in-law, Sandie on May 31, 2025 from 3PM to 5PM.
