Obituary

Patricia Jo Mayerle passed peacefully on February 19, 2024, in Medford, Oregon. She graced this Earth for 84 years.

Pat was born in Yakima, Washington to Marie Dawson and Joe McVey. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Dr. Ronald A. Mayerle, her sister Molly Meyers, her brother Joe McVey, her children, Brad, Beth, and Mike, their respective spouses Jennifer, Wayne, and Maura, and her grandchildren Jack, Katy, Sophia, Megan, and Annabelle.

Pat attended the University of Montana and the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in dental hygiene. While there, she met her future husband who was a dental school student. They were married in June 1961 and began their adventure which led them, in 1964, to Medford, Oregon.

Pat wore many hats and wore them well. She raised three children (and a husband), served as the office manager in their orthodontic office, participated in countless school clubs for her children, was active in, and President of, the Junior Service League, as well as numerous other philanthropic organizations, including volunteering for years at St. Vincent de Paul. Pat was always willing to lend a helping hand, never seeking recognition in return, just determined to get the job done.

Pat was an avid reader and accomplished seamstress. She could organize (and lead) an army, which served her and her family well. Whether it was taking her children on a two-month adventure across Europe (in the days before cell phones and the internet), organizing weeklong ski-trips for 20+ people, or planning float trips down the lower Rogue, she was willing to do anything to make sure everyone had a good time. She was also there for the difficult moments, making sure her friends and family were cared for and comforted in times of need. She was compassionate, quick-witted, hard-headed, and warm-hearted.

Pat was one-half of an amazing team. She and her husband loved to travel, setting foot in six of the seven continents. They also crisscrossed the States numerous times in their travel van, always taking the road less traveled. This team sought out adventure and always learned along the way (and also never turned down a chance to dance). They were also a part of the infamous Honeymooners, a group of eight local couples who got together four times a year for over forty years for surprise adventures.

Pat doted on her grandchildren, her "pumpkins" as she called them, and had the good fortune to be actively involved in their lives. She loved them, and they will always love her. While Pat suffered some health setbacks in her later life, she never complained and, true to her spirit, always continued putting others first. She never wavered from her "plus-plus" attitude.

Pat had a good life. She was the quintessential partner, mother, grandmother, and friend. She blessed us with her spirit, and we are better off for it.
