IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ray Gene
Feckner
October 5, 1944 – April 2, 2024
Ray Gene Feckner, age 79, of Medford, Oregon passed away on April 2, 2024. He was born on October 5, 1944, in Sacramento, California where he grew up in a rural farming community with his 5 siblings. Ray moved to Reno, Nevada in 1961 following his soon to be bride, Pamela Banks, whom he married in 1963. They established residency in Sparks, Nevada where they raised their three children. In 1963 they settled into a small apartment where their daughter, Tami, was born in 1964. In 1965 they purchased their 1st home where their daughter, Traci, was born in 1967. Outgrowing their 1st home, they purchased their 2nd home in 1979 where their son, Michael, was born in 1979. In 1992 they moved to Ashland, Oregon where they continued to raise Michael.
Soon after moving to Reno, Nevada Ray was mentored in the floor covering trade by his father-in-law, Curtis Banks, and became employed by Simas Floors. He dedicated 55 years of service as a flooring contractor, becoming a proprietor of a successful full- service floor covering store in Sparks, Nevada, which he operated for about 20 years. He continued his career as an independent flooring contractor until he retired in 2017. In addition to his floor covering business, in 1992, he and Pamela renovated a historic farmhouse in Ashland, Oregon where they operated Ashberry Inn, a charming bed and breakfast, for 7 years. During this time Ray arose at dawn to prepare amazing breakfasts for their guests and then ventured out to take care of his customer's floor covering needs, as he was in very high demand. Ray was known for his dedication to hard work, his "Mr. Fix It" attitude and the only person in the area who could "properly" install cove linoleum. He was respected by all who knew him. He had a strong sense of humor and a generous spirit that endeared him to many.
In his free time, Ray enjoyed building model airplanes, fishing, crabbing, hunting, camping, and taking his chances with lottery crossword scratch-its. He cherished the outdoors and found solace in nature.
Ray will be remembered for his loving nature and devotion to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Pamela Feckner (Banks); his children and their spouses Tami Gotcher (Dennis), Traci Funk (Brett), and Michael Feckner (Julie); as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Dolores Kessell (Conrad), Phyllis Lawson (Jerry), Jack Feckner, and Frank Feckner (Edith). He was preceded in death by his father, William Feckner, mother, Mary Feckner (Meidinger), and sister, Arline Yell (James "Sonny").
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Ray's memory to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are being made with the assistance of Perl Funeral Home & Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford, Oregon, where he will be laid to rest.
