Raymond Hadley

October 7, 1931 — August 13, 2020

Raymond passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on August 13 after fighting a long battle of cancer at the age of 88. Raymond was born October 7th, 1931 to his father Victor Hadley and mother Mini Mae Burt. He was the 6th child of a family of 10. Born in Orr, Oklahoma during the dust bowl years. His family migrated through the southwest and finally ended up in central California picking fruits and cotton along the way. Raymond joined the Army in 1951 and served in the Korean War. Married the love of his life Viola Faye Smith in 1952 in Reno Nevada and settled into the Bay Area. Ray and Faye were inseparable having kids along the way Richard Hadley, Carolyn Hadley-Shannon and Stephen Hadley who passed in away in infancy. Raymond is proceeded in death by his wife Faye Hadley who he was married to for 55 years. And his second wife Shirley Cagle-Smith. And his daughter Carolyn Shannon.

Raymond achieved his lifetime goal of becoming a cowboy when they moved to Prospect, Oregon from San Jose to run a cattle ranch with his brother Tom Hadley and his sister-in-law Mary Hadley, which was his wife Faye’s sister.

Ranch life was tough and fun. Raymond and Tom worked at a lumber mill to support the cows. In 1975 the lumber mill shut down so Raymond bought a Roofing Co with his longtime friend Dean Adams. Dean opted out of the roofing co. A few years later. After his son Rick Hadley got out of the Army in 1975, he partnered with Ray and Faye to run the Company. 45 years later the Company is still operating known as Hadley Roofing.

Raymond and Faye moved off the ranch into Medford Oregon where they retired to a life of fishing in Mexico and the Snake River. And Square Dancing with the Rambling Rogues. Faye passed away in 2007 and in 2010 he married Shirley Cagle Smith. Then Shirley passed away in 2016.

A caring loving Husband, Father, grandfather, Great grandfather, Brother, and Uncle is how he will be remembered.

Raymond is survived by his son Rick Hadley, his daughter in-law Mary Hadley, and his 4 grandchildren Stacy Fields, Kyle Hadley, Ben Shannon and Chris Shannon and his 5 great grandchildren.
