Richard Dan Rohde, born on December 8, 1944, in Newberg, Oregon, left us on December 2, 2023, in Jacksonville, Oregon. Richard led a life filled with dedication and love for his family and his work. It is with great sadness that we announce his passing but also take this opportunity to celebrate the man that he was.
Richards journey began after graduating from Reedsport High School in 1963. He embarked on a career in road construction. One of his notable achievements during this time was his involvement in building the Mt. Ashland Ski Road. Following an honorable service in the US Army from 1965-1968, where he attained the rank of Sergeant and received the National Defense Service medal and expert rifle distinction, Richard dedicated the next 50 years of his life to the timber industry. His commitment to logging and road building within this industry showcased his strong work ethic and resilience.
Though Richard was undoubtedly devoted to his profession, he always prioritized the importance of family. In any free moment he had, Richard cherished spending time with his loved ones. Whether it was attending sporting events involving his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren or simply enjoying quality time together at home, he embraced every opportunity to create precious memories with them.
With a quiet, loving demeanor, Richard held a genuine passion for sports and outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing. These hobbies allowed him to relish natures beauty while indulging in moments of solace and reflection. In retirement, he found solace by working in his yard and surrounding himself with the tranquility of nature.
Richard was a lifetime member of the Jacksonville Odd Fellows Lodge. Through his involvement in the lodge, he forged lifelong friendships and contributed to the betterment of his community.
Richard was an incredible and devoted family man. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sheryl A. Rohde, with whom he spent 55 years of love and companionship. He also leaves behind his daughter Janet L. Mayfield, and son and daughter-in-law Wayne and Julie Rohde who were the lights of his life. He is also survived by a Brother David and sister-in-law Jnona Rohde, a sister Elizabeth Meadows along with many nieces and nephews.
His loss is deeply felt by his 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, who adored their grandfather and great-grandfather. They have been left with countless stories of love, wisdom, and cherished moments shared together. Richards love knew no bounds, and while he may no longer be physically present to witness their milestones, his spirit will forever guide them.
Richard was preceded in death by his father Alfred Rohde, mother Lila Rohde, brothers Robert Rohde, Wayne Rohde, Jim Rohde, and Jack Rohde and his son John David Rohde. Richard Dan Rohde lived a life characterized by dedication to work, love for family, and appreciation for natures wonders.
In honoring Richards memory, let us celebrate the legacy of a man who painted our lives with warmth and love. Rest peacefully now in eternal serenity; your spirit forever resides within our hearts.
