Born on September 22, 1937, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, Richard's life was a testament to his enduring love for his family, his deep-rooted connection to his hometown, and his unwavering dedication to his work.
Richard, known affectionately to friends and family as simply Richard, led a life marked by kindness, love, and thoughtfulness. He was a devoted husband to Suzanne Smith, the love of his life. They were married for 62 years. They raised their children, Scott Smith, Sherry Hutton (Smith), and Tammy Smith, in an environment filled with laughter and joy. Richard was a caring grandfather to Forrest Smith and Sierra Griggs, and he enjoyed his nine great-grandchildren.
Richard graduated with a bachelor's degree from Southern Oregon University. He took great pride in his involvement with the family business, Klamath Falls Brick & Tile Co., which his grandfather established in 1917. Richard's hands-on work and vision were instrumental in producing brick for many of the Northwest's landmark buildings, leaving a legacy of craftsmanship and community contribution that will endure for generations.
His passion for his work was matched by his love for the great outdoors. Richard found solace and joy in spending time with his family at their cabin at the Lake of the Woods, where many cherished memories were made. His love for fishing and boating provided countless hours of serenity and adventure, both for him and for those he loved.
Richard's character was of kindness and loving nature. His gentle demeanor and genuine concern for others left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew him.
As a cornerstone of the Klamath Falls community, Richard's contributions extended beyond his business endeavors. His warm smile and generous spirit were fixtures in the lives of those around him.
In his passing, Richard leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication. He is survived by his loving wife Suzanne; his children Scott, Sherry and her husband Mike Hutton, and Tammy; his grandchildren Forrest and Sierra; his nine great-grandchildren.
