Obituary

Richard (Dick) F. Wager, lovingly known to his family as "Papa", beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted friend, passed away peacefully March 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

A true family man, Dick's greatest happiness came from time spent with his beloved wife of 55 years, Phyllis, their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family trips to Hawaii created some of his most treasured memories, filled with sunshine, laughter, and deep connection.

Dick was born in Portland, Oregon October 20, 1931 to Francis and Elizabeth Wager. He spent his childhood summers helping on his Uncle and Aunt's Beaverton, Oregon farm where his love of the land and animals, especially dogs, was nurtured. This love continued throughout his life.

Dick attended Catholic schools and was a graduate of University of Portland, earning his degree in Business Administration.

As a proud veteran, Dick served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a communications and radio specialist. Following his military service, he went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad in Portland, Oregon. Dick moved to Medford, Oregon in 1958 where he met Phyllis Brownlee. The two married in 1959. After leaving the Union Pacific Railroad, Dick built a distinguished career at Harry & David as the Traffic (Distribution) Manager and later fulfilled a lifelong dream of business ownership with Nor Cal Trucking.

A man of many passions, Dick was an avid World War II enthusiast and a true lover of aviation — earning his pilot's license and spending countless joyful hours in the sky. As a flight enthusiast, he also had a passion for building and flying model airplanes. An accomplished golfer, he could proudly say he achieved a hole-in-one. He also loved fishing and spent many weekends and vacations on the family property in Brookings, Oregon with his family and friends. Dick is known for always whistling a cheerful tune, a sound that brought comfort and joy to those around him.

Dick's deep faith was a guiding light throughout his life. A devout man of God, he was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish in Medford and a committed member of the Knights of Columbus, living out his faith through service, kindness, and humility. He and Phyllis passed this belief, faith and love of God on to their children.

Dick is survived by his daughter, Deborah (Walker), Son-In-Law, Mike, son, Brian, Daughter-In-Law, Shelly, his beloved grandchildren, Rylee, Chase, and Cade, and his great-grandchildren Emelia, Jovee, Tatum, Hudson, and baby girl Laney arriving soon. His warmth, laughter, steady presence, and love of life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored.
