Robert Dean Romig of Medford, Oregon was born on June 12, 1947 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to Arnold Romig, and Dorothea Romig (Mullins). Robert passed away on April 1, 2019 at the age of 71.
Robert comes from a large family where he was the middle child of the five Romig Children. His siblings are Charles and James Romig (Betty), Laura Vravil (Arden), and Terri Happenstall.
Robert was born in Wisconsin however the family moved to California when Robert was 3 years old. His parents were missionaries and had returned from a mission over-sea and wanted to start a new religion-based chapter in their family life. They settled in Anaheim California to be close to his mother's family. This is where Robert and his siblings grew-up and spent the remainder of their childhood.
On August 23, 1967 Robert was inducted into the United States Army. He went straight from bootcamp to the jungles of Vietnam. Robert served his country bravely for two full years "in country" before returning stateside. He returned home from Vietnam August 8, 1969. Robert didn't talk much about that experience right away due to the sentiment in the country surrounding the Vietnam war. He then joined the National Guard Reserves, staying until August 22, 1973.
That same year 1973, Robert came to Ashland, Oregon to visit his mother, who had relocated. While there he met the love of his life, Kathleen (Katie) Christensen (Romig).
Katie already had two boys Drake and Joel Marshall. In 1975 they added a daughter, Sarah Grace Romig.
Robert and Katie raised their young family in the quiet village section of Ashland, Oregon. Robert worked at Parsons Pine Lumber mill for several years. Eventually the family moved to Medford as Robert relocated to Boise Cascade Lumber company in White City. Robert would work in the lumber industry for 32 years, retiring in 2004.
That same year Robert and Katie moved to Hawaii to live out a life-long dream of living on the beach. Although living in Hawaii was a great experience, they missed their children, and grandchildren, and moved back to Medford. Robert was a devout believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. He was fateful and devoted to his Lord and Savior to his last breath.
Robert is survived his daughter Sarah Rivas, brother's Charles and James Romig, and sister Laura Vravil. He was proceeded in death by his father Arnold, mother Dorothea, sister Terri, Kathleen his wife of 45 years, sons, Drake Marshall, and Joel Romig.
He is survived by 8 grandchildren; Zithra Marshall, Julian Marshall, Alejandra Rios, Aralia, and Anjelica Rivas, Jasmine and Jashante Ephriam, and Kylynn Romig. As well, Robert has 6 great-grandchildren: Colton and Azlynn Marshall, Ezra and Lillian Marshall, Indie Romig, Gabriel Ramirez and Many nieces, nephews and brother & sister in laws. We will miss your smile and laugh. God speed to you Robert.
