Obituary

Rose Louise Ullrich, 93, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2024 at Roxy Ann Memory Care Community in Medford, Ore. She was born December 28, 1930 in Irvington, N.J., to Frank Henry and Rose Louise (Fulcher) Ostertag.

Rose graduated in 1948 from Hillside High School, Hillside, N.J. She trained to be a medical technician at Moravian College, where she met theology student Edward A. "Eddie" Ullrich. They were married September 7, 1955 in Newark, N.J.

Rose moved with Eddie as he served Moravian parishes in DeForest, Wis.; Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Downey, Calif., and Fargo, N.D. During that time she held several jobs, including hospital work early in her marriage, and occasional part-time work at public and hospital libraries. She prided herself on keeping a neat home.

Following Eddie's retirement, they relocated to Medford, Ore. in 1996 to be closer to family.

Rose was an excellent seamstress and made most of the family's clothing for many years. She later became a very competent quilter and used her skills to make countless "pet pads" she donated to local animal shelters. Rose also enjoyed reading and stated her life's goal was to read every book in the public library. When she wasn't reading or sewing, Rose could be found with a cross-word puzzle and religiously watched Jeopardy. She was a past member of Mountain Stars Quilt Guild and Senior Striders, and attended First Presbyterian Church, Medford.

Unfortunately, dementia robbed Rose of her ability to do the things she enjoyed. She was able to live in her own home, cared for by son Andy and daughter Sarah, until January of this year, when she moved to Roxy Ann Memory Care Community.

Rose is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Andy and Cathy Ullrich of Medford, and Tom and Josephine Ullrich of Whittier, Calif.; and daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Shaun Granger of Medford; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Daniella and Hoang Luu, Stanton, Calif., and a great-granddaughter due in November. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Eloise Ostertag of Maine and Helen Ostertag of Pennsylvania, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60+ years, Rev. Edward A. "Eddie" Ullrich; infant son, Joel Ferdinand Ullrich; and brothers Carl Ostertag and Frank Ostertag.

Services will be held Friday, July 26, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Siskiyou Memorial Park, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, Ore. Cremation has taken place, and she rests beside Eddie.

We extend an enormous thank you to the staff at Roxy Ann Memory Care Community, especially Kathleen, for providing such patient and loving care to Rose and to all of us. Riverside Hospice assisted in keeping Rose comfortable during her transition, for which we are most grateful.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
