IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas
Stanaland
October 12, 1956 – August 22, 2025
Thomas William Stanaland passed away peacefully on August 22, 2025. Tom was born on October 12, 1956, in Tampa, FL to William and Betty Stanaland. After moving to a few different towns in Oregon, they settled in Medford when Tom was in the 4 th grade. He finished elementary school at Oak Grove, then attended McLoughlin Middle School, Medford Mid High, and graduated from Medford Senior High in 1974. While studying for his Business degree at SOC (now SOU), he met his wife Linna (Goetsch). They married in June 1979. Tom and Linna were blessed with two children: Janiece and John. Tom owned and operated his own Farmers Insurance agency for over 40 years. He was an active volunteer with John's Boy Scout Troop #5. He enjoyed the annual campouts and a sailing trip in the Florida Keys with the troop. Tom was a board member and volunteer for The Medford Cruise for many years. Tom loved spending time with his family, especially outdoors- camping, fishing, hiking, biking, picking wild blackberries and huckleberries, and visiting many national parks. He also enjoyed going on cruises- so many buffets to try and sites to see! Tom willingly served at the churches he and his family attended over the years. With his family's blessing and support, Tom prearranged to donate his body to The Oregon Brain Bank at OHSU. The neurological diseases research team will study his brain and spinal cord as part of ongoing research of Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. Tom did not let Parkinson's or Lewy body dementia diagnoses define the rest of his life. Instead, he eagerly participated in a clinical trial, answered many research questionnaires, and provided his medical history and chart notes to another study. He also joined the Rock Steady boxing group at Superior Athletic Club which is a boxing program specifically tailored to individuals with Parkinson's. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William and Betty; his brother Richard; and his in-laws Eugene and Donna. Tom is survived by his wife of 46 years, Linna; his daughter Janiece, son-in-law, Ryan, and grandson Finan; his son John, daughter-in-law Megan, and grandsons Lucas and James; his aunt, Marilyn; and his sister, Susan. A private service is planned. The family will gather to honor Tom, Dad, and Papa Tom and share special memories. If you would like to share a story or remembrance of Tom with the family, please email tomandlinna@gmail.com. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, The Medford Cruise which supports youth organizations in Southern Oregon, or Rock
Steady Boxing.
