She is proceeded in death by her parents Leroy Bennett, Cathryn Collins Bennett Grimes and her bother Roy Bennett. May was born on May 11th, 1948 in Hazlehurst, Mississippi to Leroy Bennett and Cathryn Irene Collins. Her family later moved to Oregon where she graduated in 1966 from Ashland High School in Ashland, Oregon. She then attended Medford Beauty College in Medford, Oregon where she received a license in cosmetology. On May, 1st 1971 She married Darrell Lee Charles Plankenhorn at Trail Community church in Trail, Oregon and they began their 49 years of marriage in the Rogue Valley. May was a homemaker for many years, raising her children before she returned to her true passion of Cosmetology. She was an accomplished hairdresser and nail technician, who enjoyed all aspects of the beauty industry. Over the years she owned several salons and truly loved teaching and mentoring women in the industry and encouraging them to pursue their goals. Her true joy was her clients. She cared deeply for her clientele and often they were more family to her then just appointments. May loved the summer season when she could enjoy Saturday morning garage sales, thrift shopping, dancing, and her yearly trip to Las Vegas. The family graciously declines flowers and donations; however, prayers, condolences and memories are gladly accepted at perlfuneralhome.com/obituary or on her Facebook page. Plans to have a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date during the summer of 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
